Fighting Festival In Peru Settles Scores Before the New Year


These men are fighting to settle scores in time for the New Year as part of the Takanakuy fighting festival. It's a Christmas tradition . Referees are on hand to declare winners. In fights over everything from affairs to financial disputes. And every fight ends with a holiday hug. David Vera, Mayor of Chumbivilcas says, "for us, it's a customn, a tradition where the Chumbivilicans have the custom of the great Takanakuy every December 25th and our blood boils. The festival was recently proclaimed an official part of Peruvian heritage, giving men the hope of starting the New Year with a clean slate.
