At This Restaurant, Grandmas Are The Chefs

This eatery in Staten Island, NY hires grandmas instead of chefs from all over the world. The women are serving up special family dishes. There's probably around thirty or forty nonnas in total from Bangladesh, Siberia, Armenia, Greece, Philippines, Jerusalem, etc. Entoca Maria schedules two grandmas each day one Italian and the other from another part of the world. Every time of these grandmothers is in the kitchen, you have a thousand years of culture coming out of their fingertips. Each grandma had a lifetime of unique experiences. These poverty driven dishes, for them, it's kinda of an embarrassment. Because it represents a very hard time in their lives. Training is free and one-on-one, and it's so popular there's a wait-list. Especially in this time, when you see a lot of divisiveness, it's very to bring people together, different cultures together. Food, music and art do that comfortably.
