Loved Ones Meet At U.S.-Mexico Border Fence

Separated families talk to each other through this fence at the U.S-Mexican border every weekend where, U.S authorities let vetted groups of people approach the fence for four hours on Saturdays and Sundays. The only way families can see each other is through what they call 'pinky handshake' or 'pinky promise'. Parents and children are separated by this fence for years, some have never met each other. The meeting spot is called friendship park, which symbolizes international friendships between the two countries. The activity is partly organized by nonprofit Border Angels. Enrique Morones (Border Angels Founder) says, "We have to demonstrate more than ever that love has no borders. We will continue with the subject matter of how we can work together. So the permits I receive from Border Angels on U.S side. I get them directly with the border patrol chief from the San Diego county. The first Sunday of each month, we have migration layers. It's about working along with the government on both sides of the border, because we only want to help our people, and those people include every human being, everybody." The nonprofit organization's founder encourages friendly agreements with law enforcement for separated friends and family. For those in the U.S, the walk to friendship park is long and tiring, it takes one hour to walk through the mud, entanglements and through water, because it's the only way to see their loved ones through a fence, here in the friendship park. The group organizes other events to help loved ones on both sides of the border.
